Modifié le 28 avril 2021 – Le repêchage est considéré comme très solide cette année, notamment au niveau des quart-arrières, des receveurs et de la ligne offensive. Les équipes qui ont besoin d’une mise à niveau de ce côté du ballon devraient avoir la possibilité de faire de gros mouvements.
Il y a 259 choix cette année, et cela inclut 37 choix compensatoires ou « Special Compensatory picks ».
Pour bénéficier d’un choix compensatoire, l’équipe qui en reçoit un doit avoir perdu un agent libre pendant l’intersaison 2020. À partir de là, la NFL utilise une formule non divulguée pour distribuer les choix compensatoires en fonction du salaire du joueur et du temps de jeu de l’agent libre. Par exemple, les Patriots de la Nouvelle-Angleterre ont perdu Tom Brady la saison dernière. Compte tenu de son salaire et de son temps de jeu, les Patriots ont droit au premier choix compensatoire du troisième tour du repêchage de cette année.
Habituellement, la NFL a une limite de 32 choix compensatoires, mais cette année, il y en a eu quelques uns supplémentaires, dont une erreur comptable qui n’a pas donné initialement aux Patriots un choix compensatoire de cinquième tour. Ces sélections supplémentaires pour les équipes auront lieu lors des rondes 3 à 7.
